This building is… well, extravagant! The people of Baden-Baden are simply thrilled by this bold design by American architect Richard Meier. Meier received important architectural prizes for the Museum Frieder Burda, the Honour Award of the American Institute of Architects and the “New York Chapter Design Award”.
Perhaps you can find the time and see for yourself: The view from the windows into the park is a work of art in itself. And every exhibition offers art enjoyment at an international level. In addition to the changing exhibitions, the works of art from the museum founder’s collection are displayed on over one thousand square metres.
The covered link to the Staatliche Kunsthalle des Landes Baden-Württemberg, an Art Nouveau building designed by architect Hermann Billing in 1909, is also wonderfully successful. French sandstone was a popular building material in Germany after the victory of 1871 and was also used in the construction of the Alte Oper opera house in Frankfurt, for example.
The museum is dedicated to contemporary art with considerable success. The two large metallic rectangles by the artist Richard Serra in front of the building and Dan Flavin’s neon installations on the façade have also become eye-catchers in the avenue.
